This is a cool place to stay for a night or maybe two. Good breakfast included, served outdoors in a little palapa kind of structure. Beautiful place to wait for the first night in town or last night before you leave, but I probably wouldn’t want to spend the entire vacation here. Explore all the nooks and crannies–it’s a fun place.

The hotel is very central, walking distance from the ADO bus terminal, a supermarket and some excellent restaurants. The room we had was spacious, comfortable, and quiet, the breakfast was delicious, and the staff is lovely and accommodating.

At the time of this posting, hotel cancellations have a one-night stay penalty, regardless of how far ahead they are canceled and whether they are booked on 3rd party sites or the hotel’s website. If you’re booking now in advance, doing so directly with the hotel might offer better discounts.

I live in London, so when I travel, I like to be surrounded by peace and nature, without sacrificing quality and service. El Rey del Caribe was merely perfect in both ways. The bedrooms – immaculately clean and spacious – overlook a small tropical paradise carefully designed around a pool, a fountain and open-air hall.

As soon as I arrived, Marta, the concierge, went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and help me find the best deals in town – she also recommended to me and my family the cozumel jet pack tour. The eco-credentials are legitimate, and not the greenwashing typical of most hotels. And the price is perfect for all this. Full marks!

We had a wonderful visit. Picture a tropical oasis surrounding a pool, covered in trees and flowering plants, but on a city block right in the middle of Cancun.

Rooms are tidy and well-appointed with a mini-fridge and a cooktop. Included breakfast had several reasonable options and very lovely freshly-squeezed juice. Front desk staff were accommodating, calling to confirm our tour one day and our airport transportation the next.

The location is great. You can walk to several excellent local restaurants and a grocery store, or take a public bus to the beach (and hotel zone) for only 60 cents each way. I highly recommend this place for a more authentic and local experience than the overpriced resorts.
